The southwest tip of Washington is shaped by the entrance of the great Columbia River, waves crashing on rocky headlands and a graveyard for shipwrecks. Lewis & Clark and the Corps of Discovery reached Cape Disappointment in November 1805, the end of their voyage to the Pacific Ocean.
