The Yukon says adventure, but traveling there no longer requires a backbreaking hike or dangerous boat ride (international flights go directly to Whitehorse). In 1896 gold was discovered in the Klondike, and thousands of people stampeded to Dawson City. Today in Dawson, kids can pan for gold along Bonanza Creek, where one of the biggest gold rushes began.
Tip: The Yukon has much of the wonderful wildlife as you can see in Alaska - caribou, moose, mountain goats, Dall sheep, grizzly bears, beavers, bald eagles, trumpeter swans - and many animals are easily visible as you drive along the highway.
