Port Angeles
Port Angeles is a jumping off spot for the ferry to Victoria, British Columbia, just across the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Kids will have fun on the ferry ride from Port Angeles to Victoria, a 90 min. trip with great views of snow covered peaks on the Olympic Peninsula. Tip: When you travel from the U.S. to Victoria, you'll need passports or other official documents to enter Canada.
Harbor area -
Tip: While you're waiting for the ferry, here's some fun things to do at the City Pier, close to the MV Coho ferry terminal.
Playground and sandy beach - Run around this super little playground with a bright red ship and slide, plus
picnic tables, grass and shade trees. Next to the playground is a long sandy beach with tiny waves lapping at the shore, a great place to relax before the boat comes.
Feiro Marine Life Center - Check out the baby giant Pacific octopus, and natural history of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. In the touch tanks are bright orange sea stars, scallops, anemones and other intertidal sea creatures. Open daily year round.
Climb up the viewing tower - Climb to the top of this three story blue and white viewing tower for views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Olympic Mountains and Cascades to the east. Staring into the Strait, kids can pretend they are 18th century Spanish explorers who charted these waters and named Port Angeles.
Olympic National Park Visitor Center (Mount Angeles Rd.) - Stop into the Visitor Center to get maps for Olympic National Park and check out exhibits. In the Discovery Room kids will find activity drawers to learn about wildlife in the park. Outside, take a forest stroll on Living Forest Trail (half mile round trip, strollers okay) or go down to the Peabody Creek Trail (half mile loop).
