Seville
Maria Luisa Park
On weekends, families come to play in Maria Luisa Park (Parque de Maria Luisa). It's big and green, almost like a tropical jungle, with shady duck ponds, gazebos, bubbling fountains. Kids can climb the little artificial mountain, feed the white pigeons in the plaza near the Archeological museum, go for a surrey ride, or just play in the large playground.
Horse carriage rides
- At the entrance to the park on Avenida Maria Luisa, pick up a horse carriage, and ride through the park.
Plaza de Espana
- This splashy plaza (large fountain in the center), was built in 1929 for the Spanish American Exposition. Check out the amazing azulejos, ceramic tilework in bright yellow, blues and greens. Alcoves and benches are decorated with scenes from all the provinces in Spain. (This is definitely a place to get ideas for clay class.)
Go boating
- Rent row boats or motor boats in the warm weather and take a turn around the canal.
Playground
- The biggest playground is right near the Plaza de Espana, with slides, swings, and climbing structures.
Rent surreys
- Rent surreys to pedal the whole family around (this is great if you have little ones, or teens can go off on their own). Kids will also have fun with the three-wheel pedal karts (seat two). Rentals are available near the Archaeological Museum or the Plaza de Espana.
Archaeological Museum (Museo Arqueologico)
- Seville and the surrounding area are mega-ancient. Artifacts from the Bronze Age to ancient Romans and Visigoths provide a sense of the antiquity of this area. Don't miss the lovely Phoenician figure of Astarte, Roman mosaics, Carambolo gold treasure (super jewelry) and Visigoth jewel studded crosses.
In the plaza near the museum, you'll see kids feeding all the white pigeons. The pigeons originally came from the Philippines for the Spanish American Exposition.
Museum of Popular Arts (Museo de las Artes y Costumbres Populares)
- Displays of exquisite lacework and mantillas, weaponry such as swords, helmets, old fashioned-pistols, children's toys, scale model of the Giralda tower, and re-creations of traditional crafts workshops of beaten silver, leather working, guitar-making, pottery, tiles (azulejos).
