Perthshire

Perthshire has some gorgeous scenery, scenic lakes, rushing streams, there's plenty of wonderful walks and trails for kids.

Huntingtower Castle (west of Perth) - Run around this well-preserved medieval castle, an unsual design with two large tower houses, connected with a stairway. Views from the rooftops, grassy areas to play and picnic tables on the grounds. Open year round.
Perth Leisure Swimming Pool (Perth) - Take an afternoon to relax in this pool complex, with flumes, waves, slides, outdoor lagoon, toddler pools, play areas, and picnic areas. Kids under five are free.
Elcho Castle (south of Perth) - No crumbling castle, 16th century Elcho Castle has a impressive tower house with turrets and spiral stairways, and a rooftop walk. This castle will give you a real sense of what it was like to live in a fortified household. Charming setting on the River Tay. Open April - Sept.
Macrosty Park (Crieff) - Head for this charming park along the river. One children's playground has a paddling pool (in warm weather) and trampoline, and another is an "adventure style" play area. Plenty of picnic tables, and don't miss the brass band concerts in summer at the bandstand.
Auchingarrich Wildlife Centre (Comrie) - Animals galore, falconry center, with a great play area and covered playbarn (a plus if the weather is bad), plus picnic areas and coffee shop.
Aberfeldy -
Aberfeldy Water Mill - Oatmeal will never be the same after you've watched oats ground by a water mill.
Scottish Crannog Centre - Step into a reconstruction of a crannog, traditional Iron Age (600 BC) thatched round houses. Guides are versed in the lore and ancient crafts, and you'll see demonstrations bow-drilling, grain-grinding, and wood working. March to October.
Glengoulandie Deer Park - Drive through the park to see the magnificent red deer, highland cattle (really hairy and long horned), geese, rare breeds of sheep.
