Nehalem Bay

Nehalem Bay has the best of beach and bay, a calm protected bay and long sandy beach edged with white sand dunes and green shore grass. It's quiet and peaceful in Nehalem Bay, even in the summer, the beach is a wide open expanse to explore, kids will be the only ones on the sand.

Spend the day at the beach, peering into tide pools for starfish and hermit crabs, fly kites (no shortage of wind at the beach), or make forts in the dunes. There are plenty of picnic tables and fire rings.
Bring your bikes and go for a ride along the 2 mile (mostly level) bike trail.
Nehalem Bay - If it's too windy at the beach, head over the bay, sheltered and protected, lots of driftwood for kids to play on and flat sand for buildings sand castles all afternoon. There are picnic tables near the boat launch.
Rent kayaks at Wheeler Marina and paddle around an island in the bay, or go up the Nehalem River with the tide. Kayak rental includes children's paddles and life jackets in kid's sizes.
Campground - The campground at Nehalem State Beach is one of the nicest beach campgrounds. It's located in the pine trees, but is just a few minutes walk to the beach or bay. The campground is well equipped with hot showers and fire rings. One choice is to camp in a yurt (sleeps 5). You will want to advance reservations in the summer for the campground.
