Depoe Bay
Whale Watching Center - Depoe Bay is one of best places for gray whale watching.
A group of gray whales are residents, and stay year around in the area, June to October is a good time to see them. Also, in winter and March to June, gray whales migrate from Alaska to Baja, and return north, feeding close to shore.
Along with gray whales, look for orcas, humpback whales, porpoises, dolphins, seals, sea lions, pelicans. Spotting scopes and binoculars available. Ask the rangers what to look for on a given day.
The enclosed Whale Watching Center overlooking the ocean is perfect for whale watching in all weather. Located on S. Hwy 101, Center has picnic tables and restrooms.
Whale watching tours - Go out whale watching tours to see whales close up. Tour leaders communicate with other boats about location of whales, so you're likely to see whales going by.
1 or 2 hour tours available, life jackets provided. Bring binoculars and warm clothes, it can be drizzly and cold year round, even in summer. Ginger candies are helpful for seasickness.
Otter Crest Scenic Viewpoint - Cape Foulweather - South of Depoe Bay, this is another good spot for whale watching. Viewpoint is indoors, open Wednesday to Sunday, closed January and February.
