Garda & San Vigilio

Garda is a quieter town than Sirmione or Desenzano in summer, and convenient if you're driving down the east side of Lake Garda. (The town of Bardolino is just down the road, if parents want to shop for wine.) Garda is also accessible by ferries on the lake. While you're waiting for the ferry to dock, kids can watch swan families playing in the water.

Garda harbor area - At the harbor area, rent pedal boats or taxi boats (go out on the lake for an hour or two with a driver), watch the swans, have a gelato and stroll on the promenade along the lake.
Parco Baiae delle Sirene (San Vigilio) - This park, situated on the "Bay of the Mermaid," is a super spot for a beach day. There's a beautiful lagoon with smooth pebbly beach, shallow water where kids can swim, splash and play, beach chairs, two large children's playgrounds, grassy areas, table tennis, volley ball, snack bar, picnic tables under the olive trees, showers and changing area. The park fee includes beach chairs and showers.
Tip: To get to the the Parco, take at the turnoff to San Vigilio from the SR 249, park your car, then walk down the hill a short distance to the entrance.
