Day Trips
Beit Guvrin is an impressive network of caves, located east of Kiryat Gat off Highway 35, near the ruins of Lachish. The site offers vast natural caves that were inhabited for thousands of years. The most significant remnants are found in what the early Christians left behind, often constructing vast underground cities and burial chambers, complete with ossuaries and vibrant frescoes. The caves are open daily.
Dig for a Day - A great experience for kids, particularly those who enjoy getting dirty, Beit Guvrin offers Dig for a Day workshops on Fridays for those who would like to try their hand at digging on an actual archaeological site. Kids might find something that will end up in a museum.
Yad La-Shiryon (Armored Core and Memorial Site at Latrun) - Latrun was once a Jordanian military outpost, and is now a tank museum filled with tons of tanks captured in Israel's multiple wars. Syrian, Egyptian, Jordanian, and Lebanese tanks are lined up like a tank graveyard, often open for kids to climb inside, and fun for picture opportunities.
Mini Israel - Just across from Latrun is a theme park with over 365 miniature models of the most significant sites in Israel. If you don't have time to visit the Negev or the Golan, this park offers the entire country in miniature for the whole family to explore. Hours depend on season, but the park is open daily.
