Vaison-la-Romaine
Vaison-la-Romaine - Vaison is a charming town with a market and Roman ruins. The Tuesday market is among the best and a big hit with kids. The Roman ruins are extensive, including a big open theater that seated 6000, baths, private houses, gardens. A small museum has Roman statues (dug up from the museums), mosaics and scale models of buildings.
Hiking in the Dentelles de Montmirail - Go hiking in the Dentelles, the "lace" mountains. "The hillsides are covered in sage and thyme that emit a wonderful smell when crushed underfoot as you are walking," writes a friend. Take along a picnic lunch of bread, cheese and sausage. Four and five year olds will enjoy a hike, as well as older kids.
Mount Ventoux - Drive up to the top of Mount Ventoux for a nice steep, windy road and great views of the Rhone and Durance valleys and the snow covered Alps in the distance.
