The Camargue

The Camargue, a large area of marshes and plains criss-crossed by the Rhone river, is a fascinating nature reserve to explore. You'll see bulls and horses grazing, many kinds of birds and other wildlife.

Ride the beautiful white Camargue horses (accompanied by a guide) through the salt marshes and along the seashore. Look for places on the road between Arles and Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer to hire horses. Or, rent bicycles to bike for miles through the wetlands.
Find out more about birds of the Camargue at the bird sanctuary, the Parc Ornithologique du Pont de Grau near Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.
