Dartmouth - Visit 15th century Dartmouth Castle, built to guard the entrance to the River Dart. Next door to the castle, the Old Battery has a excellent collection of cannons. To get to the castle, take the Castle Ferry from Dartmouth Quay.
Dartmouth - Totnes river cruise - Take a boat ride on the River Dart, from Dartmouth to Totnes. This makes a pleasant day trip, cruising along the estuary past quaint villages, with lunch or cream tea in Totnes. For a shorter boat trip, take a one hour harbor cruise.Exeter - In the center of Exeter stands the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, two chunky Norman on either side of a Gothic nave, ornately decorated with stone sculptures of the Apostles. Inside, the breathtakingly long vaulted ceiling (the longest "true Gothic ceiling" in the world) makes you wonder how that ceiling stays up. On High Street, take a tour of the Underground Passages, medieval aqueducts that once brought fresh water to the city. Around the historic Quayside, relax in a cafe or walk along the canal to the locks. Take a canal cruise, rent a pedal boat at the Quayside or ride bikes along the canal.
Exmoor - Exmoor National Park along the northern Devon coast, has lush woodlands, wide rolling hills, and dramatic cliffs. The park extends for miles and has trails galore. If you don't feel like hiking, horses are available for rent at stables throughout the park. While you're exploring, look for the reclusive wild red deer.
Exmoor Brass Rubbing Centre (Lynmouth) - Choose from hundreds of brass plates to make rubbings. The designs go back hundreds of years, and include local Exmoor scenes and animals.
