Mammoth Lakes
Winter Activities
Mammoth Mountain gets many feet of snow in winter, turning it into a fabulous area for winter sports. There's a wide variety of kids' ski programs, from children ages 4 and up to experienced junior skiers. Skiing and snowboarding isn't the only option, there's tubing and sledding on the hills around Mammoth and ice skating.
Mammoth Mountain Ski Area -
Main Lodge - Main Lodge has a Ski and Snowboard school, with lessons for kids ages 4 and up. For younger kids, there are ski and snowboard combo packages for kids ages 4 - 8. Small World Child Care has infant and toddler childcare, with arts, crafts and snow play for little ones, up to age 12. Kids will also enjoy the ice skating rink and ride in the scenic gondola to the top of Mammoth Mountain.
The Village and Canyon Lodge - At the Family Center (The Village) or Canyon Kids (Canyon Lodge) buy tickets, sign up for lessons and rent equipment. Take the free Village Gondola at The Village, and ride to the slopes. The Family Fun Park at Canyon Lodge is an unbound terrain park, with small jumps and mini-halfpipes.
Eagle Lodge - This is a beginner section of the mountain, with easy slopes. Rent equipment at Little Eagle Lodge. From Juniper Springs Lodge, kids can ski out the front door.
Tubing and sledding - If you've brought your own stuff, just take the Scenic Loop Road north and find a good place to go tubing or sledding. There's also sledding and snow play at Smokey Bear Flat (on 395, just north of the turn off to Mammoth Lakes). For more spiffed up tubing, at Sledz, north side the road to the Main Lodge (Route 203), you can rent tubes.
Dog sledding - Experience the snowy wilderness on a dog sled! 25 minute rides through the forest are perfect for kids with Mammoth Dog Teams.
