Butterfield Acres - Head to Butterfield Acres for a farm visit that appeals to young kids. Here you can milk a goat, let the piglets lick your toes, cuddle a rabbit or feel the warmth of a newly laid egg. There are also pony rides and special events throughout the year including an Easter Hunt and Harvest Pumpkin Hunt. It's a 30-minute drive from downtown; the farm is open for the summer season from early April.
Bowness Park - Ride a miniature train that runs every half hour during the summer months or rent a canoe or a pedal boat to float around the lagoon. Cool off afterward with an ice-cream from the ParkSide Cafe and a stroll through the leafy park to the children's play area. You'll find large fields for a game of soccer and picnic and BBQ spots throughout the park.
Ride a rollercoaster - For thrill-seekers, Calaway Park, western Canada's largest outdoor amusement park, is just 6 miles from downtown on the TransCanada Highway. Teens will like the thrilling Vortex rollercoaster, but there's also rides for younger kids too. This is a family-oriented park, arrive early to beat the crowds.
